"Douglas Norman "Dee" Covington, 92, of Goodlettsville, died on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012.

He was born in Sumner County, June 12, 1920, to Charles Lafayette Covington and Alice D. Fields Covington.

He married Atlas Palmer in 1941. They had four children together. In addition to his parents and siblings he was preceded in death by wife

of 37 years, Martha Pulley Mickle; son, Douglas Norman Covington; and grandson, Justin Mahler.

Covington lived a full, rich, and eventful life. He will be remembered as the cheerful and generous man who enriched th lives of all he

touched.

He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 5th Armored Combat Infantry Division during World War II serving in England, France, and

Germany. Dee was awarded three Bronze Stars for Meeritorius Service and three Purple Hearts for Military Merit. He was a man of many

talents and careers: a farmer, machinist/electrician at DuPont Cellophane, a school bus driver/trainer for 20 years with Metro (retiring in

1982), owner and operator of the Covington Grocery, a radio/TV repair shop, the Old Hickory restaurant, Covington's Sewing Machine

Service and Covington's Machine Quilting in White House and Springfield, a delivery driver for Purolator Courier, a real estate investor, and

a landlord for several properties. He was a craftsman who built a house, furniture, cabinetry, and clocks. He created intricate inlaid wood

and scroll woodwork and repaired clocks into his 90's. He especially enjoyed restoring antique clocks. Dee left many handmade treasures

that friends and family will forever enjoy and appreciate.

A 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Dee was a member of Lodge #700 in White House since 1949 and a Shriner with the Al Menah

Temple in Nashville since 1975. His leisure time was consumed by a passion for watching the Atlanta Braves, working in the carpentry

shop, and feeding the ducks and birds daily who come into his backyard for their meals. Dee lovingly referred to his Longhaired

Dachsshund, "Susie," as his four-legged girlfriend.

Martha Pulley Mickle, his wife of 37 years, struggled for years with Alzheimer's. Dee cared for her in their home until her death in 2006. Dee

faced his second lung cancer dianosis with courage and a positive spirit.

A celebration of his life was held at the White House Chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept. 8 with Rev. Tim Stutler

officiating.

Interment followed the service with full Army military honors at the Hermitage Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory. Family

served as pallbearers.

Since Dee was never able to enjoy flowers due to a lifelong allergy, the family requests that no flowers be sent.£ (Obituary from The

Covington, Jr. was born in Nashville, Tennessee on May 23, 1936 to parents Earl and Elizabeth. He had a younger sister, Dianne, who died

several years before him.

Earl graduated from East Nashville High School, obtained his undergraduate degree from Belmont College and earned a Master's degree

in Library Science from Peabody College in Nashville.

Earl later joined the military and served as a librarian with the both the Army in France and with the Air Force in Germany.

In 1966, during a trip back to the states to visit his family, he met the man who became his life partner, Dr. Paul Glass, Jr. Earl and Paul

shared 45 amazing years together, living for 25 years in Washington, DC and in Austin, Texas since 1993.

While residing in the Washington area, Earl was the librarian at a Jr. High school near their home in the DC suburb of Gaithersburg,

Maryland.

They enjoyed traveling and entertaining and were well known for their hosting hospitality. Upon arrival in Texas they became heavily involved

in the Austin Lyric Opera Guild, meeting many wonderful friends.

After Paul passed on November 16, 2011 Earl dreamed daily of being with him again. On November 8, 2012 his dream came true.

In accordance with his wishes, Earl will be buried near Paul in Ft. Worth, Texas on Saturday. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that a

on Friday. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with sons, sons-in-law, and grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Mr. Covington was a member of Living Springs Baptist Church, a US Air Force veteran, and a retired truck driver with Yellow Freight. He a
