passed away at the home of his son, C. D. Covington, 915 Green street, last night, after a decline in health lasting for five years or more. Mr.

Covington had been failing steadily, after being an invalid for the last two years, and his death was not unanticipated.

Mr. Covington was born in Halifax county, being a son of the late Edward Green Covington and Mrs. Annie Roberts Covington. His early life

was spent in Halifax, but in young manhood he moved to Caswell county and for more than thirty-five years was engaged in farming in the

vicinity of Yanceyville. During his life there he established many warm friendships and he was generally esteemed and respected. His

church membership was first with the Providence Baptist church between Danville and Yanceyville, but in later years he transferred his

membership to Yanceyville, maintaining, however a keen interest in the Providence church.

He retired from active pursuits when ill health became apparent and three years ago he came to this city to live with his children. Forty-seven

years ago he was married to Miss Montgomery. Together they reared a large family. Mr. Covington leaves, besides his widow, ten children

as follows:

W. E. Covington and B. R. Covington of Danville; C. C. Covington, of Blanche, N. C.; C. D. Covington, of Danville; H. S. Covington, of

Washington; R. L. Covington, of Bluefield, West Va.; Mrs. E. P. Snead, Blanche, N. C.; Mrs. E. W. Oakley, Danville; Mrs. W. R. Bradley,of

Groveland, Fla.; and Mrs. S. L. Hodnett, of Groveland. (note these names do not tie up with other records of his offspring or the 1900

Census for Yanceyville, Caswell NC))

The funeral will be held at 12:30 o'clock from the home on Green street, Sunday afternoon, by Rev. C. J. Parker. The remains will be taken

Scoggins Covington, who survives, and the son of Mr. Henry Spencer Covington Sr. and Mrs. Mary Smith Covington, both deceased. He

was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include three sons, Mr. Edward Green Covington Jr. of Pleasant Garden, Mr. John Steven

Covington of Chesapeake, Va., and Mr. Joseph Fabin Covington of Elon College; a daughter, Ms. Lane Covington Ruehle of High Point; a

sister, Ms. Peggy Covington Foushee of Aberdeen; a brother, Mr. Henry Spencer Covington of Bradenton, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and

one great-grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park. The family

will be at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel from 7 to 9 this evening. Memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church,
